Located on a promontory, 1200 feet above the Pacific, the two retreats at Sobre Sur Grande offer unobstructed views of the ocean, Rocky Creek watershed and the Ventana Wilderness. Yet it is only 25 minutes from Carmel and a few more to the center of Big Sur Valley, along one of most beautiful “commutes” in the world.
From both El Apartamento and La Casa Principal you can watch the hawks glide on the thermals rising up from the canyon below. And you can arrange for a private chef, yoga teacher and body workers to come to you. Wonderful hikes are nearby, or you can venture on a lovely drive to Carmel for golf, wineries, shopping and an indulgent dinner.
Both are totally self-contained and separate; but for the ultimate in privacy you may also reserve the entire property.
Sobre Sur Grande is 2.5 miles up Palo Colorado Road, with it’s majestic redwoods and year round creek, then an additional 3/10 miles up a private unpaved road. Mill Creek Redwood Preserve is close by and the Botcher’s Gap access to Ventana Wilderness provides the most amazing hiking opportunities. Down at the coast, Rocky Creek Restaurant offers incredible ocean front views . You’re close to the best beach in Big Sur where Garrapata Creek empties into the Pacific. Look at my “favorites” page for great adventures, from lazy to adrenaline pumping, or if your inclinations lean to the more hedonistic, check out the “Indulgences .”
There are many artists and artisans nearby who’d love you to visit their studios. For more information, just ask.
